No aircon on a very hot day (and overpriced buffet)

We had a very disappointing stay during the bank holiday wend. We arrived on a very hot evening in Paris, the reception staff told us we were lucky to be in the new rooms on the top floor... except the aircon was not working and it was super hot in the room. We were provided with a totally useless mobile aircon minitower and spent the night sweating, very little sleep. No manager on duty to speak with, still no reply to our email... We were charged full price for a horrible night! the only positive point was the cleanliness, the cleaning staff is very good. Also we opted for the hotel buffet dinner, a mistake, we were charged more than 30eur per person for nuggets and industrial food (dessert: we saw the staff taking the crepes from plastic packaging and putting it on the plates). Conclusion: overpriced, we will not use this hotel again

Excellent hotel in perfect location

We love this hotel for the convenience. Rooms are a decent size with comfortable beds and nicely presented bathrooms. The hotel has a swimming pool and small gym which are an added bonus. It is situated right next to the station so excellent for transport links in the city. We booked through booking.com

Nice place. Some important niggles.

Generally a good hotel with nice ambience Good location Nice (small) pool and separate gym Excellent breakfast spread though due to space and layout it’s slightly hectic Two major issues in the room though. The first night my son and I really struggled to sleep due to the room being so warm and stuffy. I had put on the air con on the coldest setting but then realised it wasn’t blowing out cold at all. I complained in the morning and was told rather curtly that the air con was not activated as it was still April so it was still in “heating” mode. Apparently the whole hotel had to be one or the other which I found quite incredulous for a four star hotel charging €200+ a night, as well as the fact that anybody would want heating when the weather was so warm. The receptionist I spoke to was incredibly dismissive about the situation, however I did later speak to a manager (Julien) who was much more helpful. He organised a free breakfast as compensation, permission to open the windows fully, and a tower fan. While being able to open the windows was helpful during the day it didn’t help at night as the street noise was very noisy. However the fan did help and we did sleep well after that. So if you’re too hot, do ask for Julien and a fan! The other less critical niggle was that although our room was for four people, there is no (heated) towel rail and so drying swimming things, the provided robes and towels daily was impossible and just hanging them up was a challenge. Again, surprising in an expensive hotel. No issue getting clean towels but I prefer to just dry my own. Overall it’s a nice hotel but I wouldn’t return unless I could be sure of being able to use aircon!

Be careful if requiring medical assistance in Paris

Be careful if requiring medical assistance as it can be quite complicated (compared to the UK). Unfortunately things did not go well for my stay at the hotel. This is due to a combination of issues. I fell heavily in the shower and split my head open which bled a lot (be careful the showers are very slippery). I was shaken and called the reception for assistance. Staff attended quickly and were kind and looked after me. Staff contacted the medical services. I am not sure who they spoke to as I am from the UK and do not speak French and seem to be too stupid to learn however often I try but will try again as I like going to France! I went downstairs to wait for an ambulance. When it arrived it was a private ambulance with two men. They required 150 Euros and did not have a card machine so they said they would take me to an ATM. They said it was because I was English. At this point as a female travelling alone and with a head injury and still feeling shaken and nauseous from the fall I was very uncomfortable and left the ambulance and went back into the hotel. I informed the hotel I had not gone with the ambulance because of the charge and particularly the insistence on cash. I felt the staff were not happy and I said I would take responsibility. Later I went to a nearby public hospital by taxi for 20 Euros and had two stitches in my head. When I returned from the hospital I informed the hotel and asked for a shower mat but they didn’t have one. Returning to my room the bloody towels were still in the shower. I requested new towels and the bloody ones were then taken away, but I had to wipe the blood off the bathroom floor. I returned to the hotel from the hospital at about 3pm but the hotel did not check with me again that day or at any point during the rest of my stay or since. While the hotel initially responded well to the immediate situation and are not responsible for healthcare decisions, as a tourist in Paris I would advise anyone in a similar situation to make sure they are aware of what is happening, who has been contacted, potential costs and options, where they might be taken - public or private care. I do think the hotel could have followed up with at the least a courtesy call and should have made sure that the room was cleaned up after the accident.

Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we deeply regret that incident happened to you. Following your incident, my colleagues called the firefighters who could not come at the moment and redirected the call to the SAMU which is the public Emergency Medical Service. The SAMU can send public or private ambulances. In your case, it probably was a private ambulance. We fully understand your concerns regarding the medical services and the associated costs. Indeed, the healthcare system in France can differ from the UK, and it is always advisable to familiarize oneself with the available options in case of an emergency. It does seem to us that it is not normal the ambulance asked for a cash payment while being transported to the hospital. We are sorry that despite our immediate response, the follow-up did not meet your expectations. My colleagues Miss H. checked with you many times at reception after coming back from hospital, and helped you taking a picture of your stitches. Our Reception Manager also called two times in your room however his calls were not answered. We understand your feedback about room cleanliness and the need for better monitoring of situations like this seriously. Inded we should have sent a team member to clean the room. For that, we sincerely apologize. We will strengthen our internal procedures to ensure better care and service, particularly regarding follow-up after an incident and room cleaning. Great location, room and service

Family stay overnight before getting the TGV, great location with the Gare De Lyon only 100m away. Early 2pm check-in was great, had the afternoon to explore Paris. Good sized room, excellent main bed, sofa bed sufficient for the 2 older kids. Excellent buffet breakfast, but could be open earlier at weekends too for those getting the early trains. Only issue was the shower room glass window which didn't work to block the view!
